Shipping
Most orders go out UPS, sometimes FedEx or USPS. Parts and kits ship that way.
Turnkey engines and anything too big for the parcel carriers go LTL freight. If you’re buying a turnkey, read the freight section below before you order. It works nothing like a package turning up on your porch, and folks are often surprised by it.
Freight deliveries, and what they actually involve
LTL isn’t parcel delivery. Four things to plan for.
- The carrier calls you to schedule. Delivery happens in a window you agree to, not whenever the truck is passing.
- It’s curbside. The driver brings it to the end of your driveway. Not inside, not into the garage, not around the back.
- You unload it. A turnkey engine on a pallet is not a two-person lift. Have a plan: an engine hoist, a tractor, a forklift, or a friend with one. A liftgate gets the pallet to the ground and that is all it does.
- A liftgate costs extra, typically $75 to $150.
None of this is a problem if you know it’s coming. It’s a bad afternoon if you don’t.
Inspect it before you sign
This one matters, so read it twice.
When the freight arrives, look it over before you sign the delivery receipt. If anything looks off, the crate is crushed, a corner is stoved in, the pallet is leaning, write it on the bill of lading before you sign. Take photos.
If you sign clean and find damage later, the freight claim is usually dead and there is nothing we can do about it. Two minutes with a pen protects both of us.
Freight cost
Freight is not included in turnkey pricing. We get a quote through our freight broker for your address and pass it along.
What it runs depends on where you are and what the freight market is doing, and right now that market is not what it was. Ask us for a quote before you commit and we’ll get you a real number instead of a guess.
When things ship
A deposit reserves a production slot, not a delivery date. That is the most useful sentence on this page.
- Group Build is a scheduled production run, and it’s the best value. The next one is scheduled for Spring 2027. A run goes when it reaches its minimum of five reserved kits, on or around the published date, and if it doesn’t get there your slot and your deposit roll to the next one.
- Custom Build starts right away instead of waiting for the run, and lead time is typically around 6 to 8 weeks. On custom builds we can ship sub-kits as they’re finished rather than holding everything for the last piece.
- Turnkeys are built to order and they’re popular, so we’re usually scheduling 3 to 6 months out. Talk to us about scheduling before you place a deposit.
Delivery windows are best estimates, not guarantees. We’re a micro-scale manufacturer and we do slip sometimes. When that happens you get an email, not silence. The full deposit and build terms are on the terms and conditions page.
Canada and international
We ship to Canada regularly. It’s about 5% of what we do, and most of our international orders.
Duties, taxes and customs clearance are yours, not ours. We ship with those charges due on your end, and you settle them directly with the carrier. UPS and the rest handle clearance and bill you for it.
Budget for it before you order. On a kit it isn’t a small number, and it turns up at your door rather than at checkout.
Returns
We don’t accept returns. Kits are built to your configuration and we build in small numbers, so there’s no shelf to put a returned kit back on. Custom Build parts in particular can’t be returned, exchanged or refinished once they’re ordered.
Deposits are non-refundable, but they’re transferable. If your plans change, the deposit can go to someone else taking your place in the run, or across to a Custom Build at the then-current price. Talk to us and we’ll sort it out.
If something arrives wrong, damaged or missing, that’s different and it’s on us. Email info@bostig.com and we’ll make it right.
Anything this page doesn’t cover, start on the contact page. It runs the manuals first, which is usually the fastest way to an answer.
